Strategy Director


GS&F is looking for a Strategy Director to join our Strategy team in Nashville, TN. The Strategy Director is accountable for providing sound communications strategies for business transformation and developing integrated campaign plans. This role works across disciplines to ensure that creative communications meaningfully connect with consumers and effectively impact a client’s business goals.

  • Understands the client’s business and objectives and works with the team to develop creative solutions; draws the line of connection between creative solutions and business goals
  • Develops accurate and insightful conclusions from research data and clearly articulates strategic direction to the team and client
  • Crafts insight-driven creative briefs and presents creative strategy in a way that crystallizes the opportunity and galvanizes the team
  • Is the thought leader in consumer-centric thinking; uses all available data sources (qualitative, quantitative, primary and secondary) to develop understanding, empathy and insight into the consumer and brand
  • Effectively uses consumer and brand knowledge to write strategies and POVs; recommends product/service and marketing innovations, including new channels of communication to create more relevant connections between consumers and the brand
  • Recommends and implements research that will aid in the consumer insight gathering and strategic process
  • Understands digital and social platforms and can articulate the media and marketing opportunities they afford
  • Leads translation of strategy into the creative product, ensuring that the creative product communicates clearly and resonates with the audience while building the brand
  • Interacts effectively as a strategic partner and advisor with senior agency and client management
  • Goes beyond making ideas make sense to making them compelling; inspires original creative thinking among every team member
  • Leads teams to establish appropriate measures of success and criteria for judging performance
  • Collaborates with senior clients and gives them deeper insights into the dynamics of their business through the development of disciplined and thorough sales, marketing, and consumer analyses
  • Leads an integrated group of market insights and brand planners in the delivery of all requirements to support the growth and development of all client business
  • Ensures strong collaborative relationship across disciplines and externally with key agency and client partners to consistently elevate the quality of thinking and ideas applied to the client business
  • Ability to adapt to ever-changing business realities; motivated and curious to explore invaluable brand/category insights to drive effective strategies
  • Has the capacity to transform and align an organization around a new goal
  • Ability to source, develop and implement strategic planning tools that enhance the level of thinking and insight injected into the process
  • Able to translate “how we’re doing” data into “how we can make it better” ideas
  • Maintains understanding of consumer audiences, consumer journeys to purchase, and behavior-based purchase decisions
  • Full understanding of qualitative research methodologies (survey design, discussion guide writing, moderating and reporting)
  • Robust experience with creative brief/briefings; understands the role it plays in creative development and versed in methods to effectively drive creative inspiration
  • Ability to execute quantitative research methodologies (survey design, execution and reporting) across communications touch points
  • Ability to establish and explain rational metrics and analytics regardless of medium or communications platform
  • Versed in digital strategies and how they translate online and through social media
  • Thorough knowledge of consumer engagement across consumer touch points
  • Experience working on a variety of projects spanning multiple industries and brand categories with a results-driven, proven track record of success
  • 10+ years of experience with an interactive agency, advertising agency, PR firm or a large corporation, focusing on marketing communications, brand management and/or the positioning and promotion of strategic business initiatives
  • Minimum of 3 year’s experience in coaching and managing a team of Strategists
  • Expert in MS Excel and data analysis tools
  • Experience with syndicated data (Gfk MRI, comScore, Simmons, etc) is a bonus
  • BA/BS degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Advertising, Social Sciences, Research/Statistics; an MBA or Master’s degree is a plus
